Jelvia: Not Human #5

Nemesis

Li Jing knew human memories could be manipulated from an early age.

And that was proved when alien spaceships influenced the minds of the world by taking up residence undeterred in the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.

They became known as the Jelvian Islands.

But to Li Jing, they were hideous spaceships.

Then realising that Jelvias have also succumbed to the manipulation of their controller, making them believe they are part of humanity, she gathers a team to ‘wake up’ the world.

But time and again, their group is branded as fanatics, and Li Jing begins to run out of steam. Then she finds an unconscious Jelvia. She chains him up and nurses him back to health.

She’s going to ‘wake up’ him up instead.

Are you ‘living’ your life or just living your life? #coverreveal #selfdiscovery #cheatingdeath #truelove #fantasy #books .@KiltieJackson .@rararesources

An Artisan Lovestyle

Are you ‘living’ your life or just living your life?

Elsa Clairmont was widowed barely five years after marrying her childhood sweetheart. She has struggled to come to terms with the loss and, six years later, has almost ceased to live herself. She does just enough to get by.

Danny Delaney is the ultimate ‘Mr Nice Guy’. He’s kind, caring and sweet. A talented artist in his teens, his abusive mother ruined his career in art and he turned his back on his exceptional gift. Now, he does just enough to get by.

On New Year’s Eve, both Danny and Elsa die in unrelated accidents.

Buy NOW!
Thanks to some poker playing shenanigans, Elsa’s husband Harry, and Danny’s old Art teacher, William, manage to orchestrate a deal with Death that allows Danny and Elsa to live for one more year on the condition they both agree to complete three tasks.

They have until the last chime of Big Ben on the 31st December to fulfil their quests.
If they succeed, they stay in the world of the living.

If they should fail however…

‘An Artisan Lovestyle’ is a story of personal growth and self-discovery as two people find themselves forced to make overdue changes in their lives, changes in other people’s lives, and all with the added challenge of finding true love before their time runs out.

Will they do it?

Can they do it?

After all, it’s a matter of Life or Death…

Kiltie Jackson
Kiltie Jackson grew up in Glasgow in Scotland. This is a very unique city with a very unique way of looking at life. When she was old enough to do so, she moved to London and then, after several years of obtaining interesting experiences - which are finding their way into her writing - she moved up to the Midlands.  Kiltie currently lives in Staffordshire with five cats and one grumpy husband. Her little home is known as Moggy Towers, even though despite having plenty of moggies, there are no towers!
The cats kindly allow her and Mr Mogs to share their house on the condition they keep paying the mortgage! She loves reading, watching movies, and visiting old castles. She really dislikes going to the gym! Her biggest desire is that one day she can give up the day job and write her stories for a living.
Kiltie's debut novel, 'A Rock 'n' Roll Lovestyle', was released in September 2017 and won a "Chill With A Book - Reader Award" in December 2017. She first began writing her debut novel eleven years before it was released but shelved it as she didn't think it was very good. In November 2016 when, having read more on a bestselling author who had begun her own career as a self-published author, she was inspired to revisit the unfinished manuscript and finally finish what she had started.
Since beginning to write again, the ideas have not stopped flowing. 'An Artisan Lovestyle' is the second book in the Lovestyle Series. Work is due to begin on book three (not yet titled but also part of the Lovestyle Series) in the Summer of 2018. She currently has a further ten plots and ideas stored in her file (it's costing a fortune in USB drives as each story has its own memory stick!) and the ideas still keep on coming. Kiltie now lives her life around the following three quotes:
"I love having weird dreams, they're great fodder for book plots!"
"Why wait for your ship to come in when you can swim out to meet it?"
"Old enough to know better, young enough not to care!"

Amara's Legacy
by
E H Howard

The riches of Broadfields, the largest estate in Garalandia, prove an irresistible bauble to the usurper, Mordacai. The lands could be claimed by force, or more simply acquired by his son marrying the female heir, Gemma.

Fleeing a match she considers to be a fate worse than death, Gemma has a choice: seek anonymity in the guise of a mercenary warrior, or to fight back.

Book #2
Her Serenian upbringing ensured training in deadly combat from birth. Gemma can survive where others would die. She has no intention of becoming a trophy bride and any man hoping to subdue her had better know the consequences.

Gemma has a plan. Even if she has to bathe in blood, consort with magic and face the impossible, her secret alliance with Merrilina, witch of the Wizard Council, means the head wearing the crown should rest uneasily.

Let battle commence …

Amara's Legacy (Shudalandia Series Book 2)
Chapter One
Gemma wiped away her tears with the back of her hand. What the hell did Frona and her mother expect? Whenever she won, they told her she was too cruel. If she lost, they mocked her as too soft. Thrippas, she was fighting the best warriors the arena could offer. If she didn’t win, the whole plan would fail.

The bitter wind dried her cheeks. She tugged her woollen cloak tight, burrowing into the fur collar. Behind her, silver moonlight glinted off the slate roofs of the town. Resting her elbows on the granite crenellations of the city wall, she stared out.

A single road of hard-packed earth carved across the pastures. Far out of sight, the track would rise, winding through the mountains, dipping through the only viable land route out of Serenia, The Gap. It was the only way home, but home was the last place she wanted to be. She corrected herself, the place she couldn’t be.

Too maudlin! A sprinkle of Baran stardust would sort her out. Her stomach churned. She glanced around, instantly feeling guilty and hoping nobody had witnessed how easily she’d given in to the craving.

She’d promised to stop using the drug. Since stardust had crept onto the scene, too many had been lost to its snare. She still had a stash, a small number of the pouches Torrin had slipped to her. She flushed at how she’d paid for them. A ring of her mother’s and … the memories of that night remained chopped up; a tangle of limbs, giggling, kissing and caressing in darkness.

He was nice. If only Torrin had the power to help her.

She scurried down the steps, slowing to marvel at how quiet the streets were. If she hadn’t paused, the scuff of a leather sole on cobbles would have gone unnoticed. Under pain of death, visitors to Serenia weren’t allowed edged weapons, but not all weapons are edged. Reaching into her waistband she slid on her knuckleduster.

“At least you’re alert,” Frona’s blocky figure stepped from the shadows. “You dusted?” Her mentor stared into Gemma’s eyes, obviously trying to see if she’d already indulged.

“No!” Hoping to hide her blush, Gemma forced Frona back into the alleyway. She wrapped the older woman in a fierce hug, tracing her tongue up her neck before sealing her mouth with a kiss.

Resting her head on Frona’s shoulder, she inhaled the scent of leather, perfume and the unique musk that combined to create Frona’s exquisite aroma. “I’m such a fool,” Gemma admitted.

“Passionate, maybe stubborn, but not a fool.” Frona drew Gemma back into the kiss. Her other hand loosened Gemma’s cloak, allowing their bodies to mould against each other.
Gemma’s voice became a husky whisper. “A fumble in an alleyway?”

“I’ve done worse.”

“We’ve done worse.”

Grabbing handfuls of Frona’s hair, Gemma surrendered.

SHADOW OF THE OWL

Preferring his rage to his reason, Chiave allowed his frustration to boil up within him, and he began kicking at anything within reach of his foot, rocks and sticks included. A log lying on a small island in the murk posed as an excellent target for his pent up anger and the heel of his boot. But when his kick connected with the dirt-encrusted thing, he heard not the crack of splintering the wood, but a moan of a decidedly more vertebrate sort. Chiave jumped back as best he could being sandwiched as he was between a huge book and a massive greatsword.

The log began to move, and unrolled itself to reveal a girl, her dark hair matted with mud and leaves.

“You would think that the world would conjure up something a bit less freckled to torture me with,” she said and attempted to go back to sleep. Chiave stood rooted in shock, so completely frozen it seemed likely he himself would become a tree, unsure at first what we was seeing, doubting it was real. “You oughtn’t have kicked a log like that. What did logs ever do to you?” The girl grumbled as she settled back into place, and instantly he knew it was real, this vision he was seeing of the log girl in the swamp.

Excerpt from The @DiscordTrilogy in July's sad, emotional scene theme

July brings sad, emotional scenes. This is an excerpt from The Discord Trilogy a fantasy fiction trilogy.

 Excerpt from The Discord Trilogy

She looks like a medic, checking over a battle injured solider. His neck is ripped open, and when she pushes the gaping wound closed, Blake’s head wobbles.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay,” her shaky voice pleads.
She thinks he can be saved.
Aggie sobs and buckles into Ruben. Cora, Ann and Thomas stand over Tara helplessly. Kneeling next to Tara, I wrap my arms over hers to still her hands. “He’s gone.”
She growls, twisting away from me. “No he’s not!”
“Tara.”
“Daddy, you can do this, just hold on.”
“Tara…” The words stick in my throat, I can’t say it.
He’s dead, Blake is dead. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
With quivering hands she picks up his wrist, raising it to her lips, her voice cracking. “No it’s all right, I can change you.”
I gently tug his cold lifeless wrist away from her. “It won’t work now.”
Her trembles become more intense. “No, no, no, no, no! DADDY!” she pulls his body toward hers, holding up his head after it flops backwards from where his neck has been broken. The tears won’t stop falling from my eyes. She hugs him, whimpering a deranged plea from the utterly grief stricken.
What little blood he had left is soaking into Tara’s clothes as she wails. “Please Alex tell me what to do.”
Tara’s grief breaks the dam for the rest of them and the sisters lose it. Our chorus of agony drowns out the waves crashing on the beach.
Thomas barely holds it together.
“Get them away from here,” I command. He and Ruben quickly comply, grateful to pull the sisters away from their broken father. They don’t need to see him bloodied and mangled any more than they already have. As the sisters' weeping fades only Tara remains kneeling, clinging to what’s left of her father.
“Shhhhh, inamorata,” I wrap my arms around both her and Blake.
She rocks back and forth. “This is not happening!”
“Tara, you need to let him go.”
Agonizing minutes tick by. She just squeezes him harder.
“We need to get you cleaned up.” She doesn’t make any gesture in reply, her eyes glassy and dull. After I scoop her off the ground she hangs in my arms with her eyes closed. Back in the house Thomas and Ann have retreated to their bedroom while Ruben and Aggie sit in the living room on either side of Cora.
Tara makes no move to help when I remove her blood stained clothes in the shower. The sound of fabric ripping echoes in the bathroom before I turn on the water. The warm water doesn’t visibly affect her. As I wash her off, her eyes stare at Blake’s blood swirling down the drain.
My mind reels with questions.
What happened? Why did we not see this coming? How can we survive this?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
in her own words...

'I'm Lauren Hodge, a chemist turned author with three children, a lot of friends no one else can see, and a swearing habit. Writing is something I stumbled into on accident.

I don't write because I have a story to tell. I write because there is a story inside my head and it's merely using my fingers to get out. I enjoy writing protagonists that are flawed and enemies that aren't. Not everyone is all good or all bad and I love the philosophical process of defining that grey area.

There are two parts of communication. What is articulated and what is received for only the latter can compel action. You, the reader, are more important than me, the author. I relish understanding what you receive from my articulation. To help with that, I have editors - lots and lots of editors. Editors are the heroes authors need, but not the heroes they deserve. As an author, I strive every day to be worthy of professional editors.

I'm the oldest of seven and have an identical twin/perfect organ donor.'
