She forms alliances with like-minded individuals known as the Mind Hierarchy, striving to restore order to a world in turmoil. However, rebellious factions seek to overthrow Kiara's rule, threatening the fragile balance she hopes to achieve.

The Mind transports readers into a richly imagined parallel world, where ancient artifacts hold the key to unimaginable psychic powers. It is the immersive first volume of the Power Duels YA Fantasy series, which features heart-stopping action scenes, memorable characters with complex romantic relationships, heroic bravery, and devious enemies. In this profound coming of age journey, Kiara must discover that true enlightenment lies not in the mastery of her supernatural powers, but in the strength of true friendship and the courage to face one's inner demons.

“I loved the power struggle Kiara faced and how the "mind games" played out. this book reads like a screenplay, and I hope someone makes a movie of it someday." - Amazon Review

How far would you go to stay alive? Before you judge, read her story in Eden.

Eden

Snippet from Chapter Three

There was no more shouting. All was quiet and peaceful. Jenny opened her eyes, and as awareness caught up, she flipped to her side and looked to the top. With dread, she rose and scrambled to the summit. It felt like a mountain.

Expecting to find Bodie and Matt dead, their bodies ripped in a frenzy under the clawed hands of the alien, she was relieved to see the men and the buggies were gone.

A glint of sunlight reflecting on something in the sky caught her eye. The buggies, now small space shuttles, were journeying back to Taurus as if being hauled back up by an invisible string.

Jenny climbed into her buggy. With shaking hands, she pressed the controls; nothing happened. She spoke into the transmitter but remembered that Kate was malfunctioning.

Her buggy was utterly immobilised.

‘Shit,’ she said or tried to say. Instead, her voice was nothing but a rasp. It felt sore, but ignoring it, she pressed more buttons on the screen display. She pumped the accelerator, but nothing happened. She couldn’t even close the buggy; instead, it remained open-topped.

She climbed back out, her hands on her head as panic held her in its grip. She looked at the sky and saw a glint of light reflecting off one of the buggies.

It’s OK. It’s OK. It’s OK. Breathe, Jenny, breathe.

She touched her throat. It was so sore, and she suspected she had alien finger marks around her throat. But she had a bigger problem in the shape of a huge alien creature with clawed, humanlike hands. She glanced around her. There was no sign of it. Surely it would’ve returned to ensure she was dead after chasing off the men.

Unless it’d gained access to one of the buggies and was heading towards Taurus.

The thought was unwelcome and quickly dismissed. Kate was programmed to destroy an intruder immediately.

But she wasn’t working.

She closed her eyes briefly. She couldn’t think that way. The alien’s body would be cast out into space when it tried to gain entry.

She climbed back inside the buggy. She’d be OK. Bodie or Matt would realise she’d been left behind. One of them would override Kate to get her vehicle operational. She’d wait.

She looked upward at the now empty blue sky.

Won’t be long now, she thought.

Around her, all she could hear was the pounding of her heart. It was a lonely sound. She sat for a long time with her head tilted back, looking up at the sky’s vastness and emptiness.

Amara's Legacy
by
E H Howard

The riches of Broadfields, the largest estate in Garalandia, prove an irresistible bauble to the usurper, Mordacai. The lands could be claimed by force, or more simply acquired by his son marrying the female heir, Gemma.

Fleeing a match she considers to be a fate worse than death, Gemma has a choice: seek anonymity in the guise of a mercenary warrior, or to fight back.

Book #2
Her Serenian upbringing ensured training in deadly combat from birth. Gemma can survive where others would die. She has no intention of becoming a trophy bride and any man hoping to subdue her had better know the consequences.

Gemma has a plan. Even if she has to bathe in blood, consort with magic and face the impossible, her secret alliance with Merrilina, witch of the Wizard Council, means the head wearing the crown should rest uneasily.

Let battle commence …

Excerpt from
Amara's Legacy (Shudalandia Series Book 2)
Chapter One
Gemma wiped away her tears with the back of her hand. What the hell did Frona and her mother expect? Whenever she won, they told her she was too cruel. If she lost, they mocked her as too soft. Thrippas, she was fighting the best warriors the arena could offer. If she didn’t win, the whole plan would fail.

The bitter wind dried her cheeks. She tugged her woollen cloak tight, burrowing into the fur collar. Behind her, silver moonlight glinted off the slate roofs of the town. Resting her elbows on the granite crenellations of the city wall, she stared out.

A single road of hard-packed earth carved across the pastures. Far out of sight, the track would rise, winding through the mountains, dipping through the only viable land route out of Serenia, The Gap. It was the only way home, but home was the last place she wanted to be. She corrected herself, the place she couldn’t be.

Too maudlin! A sprinkle of Baran stardust would sort her out. Her stomach churned. She glanced around, instantly feeling guilty and hoping nobody had witnessed how easily she’d given in to the craving.

She’d promised to stop using the drug. Since stardust had crept onto the scene, too many had been lost to its snare. She still had a stash, a small number of the pouches Torrin had slipped to her. She flushed at how she’d paid for them. A ring of her mother’s and … the memories of that night remained chopped up; a tangle of limbs, giggling, kissing and caressing in darkness.

He was nice. If only Torrin had the power to help her.

She scurried down the steps, slowing to marvel at how quiet the streets were. If she hadn’t paused, the scuff of a leather sole on cobbles would have gone unnoticed. Under pain of death, visitors to Serenia weren’t allowed edged weapons, but not all weapons are edged. Reaching into her waistband she slid on her knuckleduster.

“At least you’re alert,” Frona’s blocky figure stepped from the shadows. “You dusted?” Her mentor stared into Gemma’s eyes, obviously trying to see if she’d already indulged.

“No!” Hoping to hide her blush, Gemma forced Frona back into the alleyway. She wrapped the older woman in a fierce hug, tracing her tongue up her neck before sealing her mouth with a kiss.

Resting her head on Frona’s shoulder, she inhaled the scent of leather, perfume and the unique musk that combined to create Frona’s exquisite aroma. “I’m such a fool,” Gemma admitted.

“Passionate, maybe stubborn, but not a fool.” Frona drew Gemma back into the kiss. Her other hand loosened Gemma’s cloak, allowing their bodies to mould against each other.
Gemma’s voice became a husky whisper. “A fumble in an alleyway?”

“I’ve done worse.”

“We’ve done worse.”

Grabbing handfuls of Frona’s hair, Gemma surrendered.

The Sorceress's Apprentice: Plan-B
(Elder Codex Book 1)
by
J.L Lahey

Badger, an eight-year-old orphan, has spent his entire life hiding in books, reading of the heroic deeds performed by valiant knights and courageous adventurers.
While attempting to save the lives of his fellow orphans he manifests a magic like power.  He soon learns that using this power comes with a great risk to his own life.
A beautiful sorceress, clad all in black, soon arrives with an offer to adopt him and teach him how to properly wield his powers.
Once they leave, he learns that the sorceress is really the leader of a group of adventurers, and they're not the type of heroes that he has ever read about in books.  They’re the kind that steal, get drunk, rob graves, loot tombs, and shoot people in the back.  They basically only do what they need to in order to have a really good time.
Badger is wondering what type of tale has he gotten into, because he has never read a story quite like this one.

J.L. Lahey dwells in Arizona. He is currently writing stories for the Elder Codex fantasy series, The Tails of The Nine fantasy series and a amnesic paranormal mystery set in Las Vegas.
When he is not writing, he enjoys obsessing over role-playing games, girls, renaissance festivals, on-line games, comics and riding his motorcycle in the rain. He meets weekly, with his gaming group to discus different facets of world domination.

T. M. Shannon's writing process

by
T. M. Shannon

From tiny idea to the book shops. What is your writing process?

Having the idea:
It’s not always "sit down and let the ideas flow". Ideas pop up when you least expect it, and need to be written down or at least remembered (luckily my memory is good).

Sometimes an idea would come with such a burst of energy that it’s not only writing an idea down – but twelve pages of the beginnings of a story that goes nowhere. But it’s still saved, idea 001 so to speak, left to return to and either bring to life, or leave to give to dust.

My other dream is to write a Role Playing Game. Sadly, I don’t know coding, but I know writing. Either way, these blunt ideas were the conception for The Torment, The Shadow, The Heart.

Author T.M. Shannon
Drafting:
At first, I had such a urge to write that I did a lot of Hero of Talbadas (Vol 1) on the fly. I began on the PC, creating the idea of the world - what became the Verity in the published version, but then, like most writers, I had a day job to go to. I would leave work early, and take my time getting home just so I could write in an exercise book. Afterwards, I’d re-write it on Word, improving the narrative as I went. The project stalled near the end of the third book in the fantasy trilogy, all motivation gone. What I needed was to look at getting published for that final push.

Revising:
To get an agent or just to publish yourself you need to get the book up to a high standard. It starts making sure you have the book that you want. Revising is simply making sure your work makes sense. As I went with The Torment, The Shadow, The Heart I ended up removing some chapters and putting them in book two, took the start of book two and used it as the denouement for book one, and re-wrote a few things in between. It was just a matter of improvement.

Editing:
Past revising, editing is like “cutting the fat” off a steak. Go through and find proofing errors (I missed some of them and had to go again). Go through and ensure the formatting is good. Go through and make sure it makes sense i.e. delivers the narrative well. And after that, it pays to get it checked out by a fresh set of eyes.

This last step I actually haven’t done with The Torment, The Shadow, The Heart but intend to soon. It’s a bit of a monetary issue, but I wasn’t going to let that get in the way of my dream of becoming a published author
