The funniest sex scene ever! ‘Is it in?’ she asked. A ridiculously half priced book for romcom lovers #novel #reading #britishbooks #beachbuy #latesummer #booktok #romcom #chicklit

A Proper Charlie

A crazy British comedy romance with a feel-good factor.

Charlotte (Charlie) Wallis dreams of being a journalist and part of a family unit. Life hasn’t been easy for her—born to a junkie mother and brought up in a children’s home—she craves a family life. But her current boyfriend has palpitations at the mention of commitment, and Charlie’s beginning to believe she’s going to be the office gofer forever.

Then she hears of a possible Jack the Ripper-style story with London in its gruesome grip. Bodies aren’t showing up even though prostitutes are going missing at a rate of one a month, and the police are stumped.

Without telling anyone, Charlie dons her best fishnet stockings and hits the streets pretending to be a prostitute to secure a story to further her career.

But seeing her new boss, Ben Middleton, kerb-crawling was the last thing she expected. Then Ben lets her into his secret, and she not only becomes part of the ‘Jack the Ripper’ story, she finds herself the starring role!

Romcom at its craziest, funniest and Britishness.

Oh boy, have I got a treat for you! A #romcom is up for grabs PLUS a box of choccies AND one of WWBB's derogatory style interviews! #giveaway #romance #fiction #author #interview .@VictoriaCooke10 .@rararesources

It takes a brave author to agree to WWBB’s derogatory interview style.

So welcome (mawuhhhhhh) Victoria Cooke. Let the bitch fest interview begin!

How come you came up with the shitty title of The Secret to Falling in Love. Did you run out of ideas?

Actually, it was much worse to begin with but my publisher improved it by totally scrapping my title idea and coming up with another one. It does what it says on the tin and who doesn’t want to know the secret to falling in love? Even if you don’t want to be in love or you hate love, it’s best to know the secret so you don’t inadvertently fall into it. That’s my catchy motto anyway.

Could the title have been any worse? The Secret to Falling in Love… come on. OK, moving on because I haven’t all day discussing god-awful book titles, what’s so great about book? (Don't want the boring details, a couple of lines is enough!)

It’s set in my home city of Manchester, the coolest city on earth. We gave you Oasis and Coronation Street and funnily enough, the computer (a central theme in The Secret to Falling in Love – wink wink). Manchester is also home to the oldest library in England so I think book lovers everywhere owe it to Manchester to read all the books set there.

Manchester the coolest city? I don’t think so, lady! Oasis can’t stand one another, Coronation Street… OK, I’ll give you Corrie. And (grudgingly) the rest. So, am I likely to fall asleep during chapter one?

I hope not, there’s a grown woman stuck in a dog flap for goodness sake! It’s literary fiction at its finest.

Eat your heart out Jane Austen! And is your protagonist happy now their story has been told, or is there more to come (God help us!)?

She is definitely happy; she’s got Scott (hearty eyes) and she’s dealt with a few nasties whilst figuring out her friend’s secret and befriending a cool old lady.

Describe your writing style in ten words or less. I’ll begin with the first two: Crap, dull…

Colloquial, contemporary (a little bit sweary but not as much as one American reviewer on Amazon would have you believe). I also have a substantial cocktail-based vocabulary.

I have a sudden compulsion to read this book! Go on, just for a laugh, share with us that review.

Okaaaay. It’s from Amazon USA:

‘I didn't enjoy the book at all. Boring. The heroine, Melissa, kept trying to find her soul mate and always wanted to hook up (sex) on the first date. Melissa was an alcoholic (that's what I call someone that drinks like she did). I got sick of all the drinking. It was a complete turnoff. I didn't care for the sex and swear words. I also didn't agree with certain lifestyles in the book. I do not recommend. Will not read this author again.’

That reviewer is a Muppet! Who’d want to go through life without a piss-up, swearing and fuc... nooky. They must live in a convent.

What qualifications do you have for writing in your genre? (Apart from waking up in the morning, that is).

I have a 2:1 in marriage and am a fully qualified spewer of hearty-eyes and warm fuzz. I got a level 2 NVQ in evil bosses and an A-level in awesome friends. I have also watched all the romcom films. All of them!

All of them? Hugh Grant’s floppy hair and all?

Many authors use their qualifications to show off their so-called talents i.e. crime writers are often coppers (or police, for the non-Brits present) and the book becomes boringly technical. How have you managed to keep your knowledge low key? Or haven’t you bothered?

Quite the opposite actually. My knowledge of dating in the times of Tinder was virtually none existent so I had to up-skill. My actual qualifications were completely useless but don’t get me started on the uselessness of my business studies degree.

I did however, allow my in-depth knowledge and experience of lecherous men shine through in one particular scene.

If your book disappeared forever, do you think it’ll be missed?

No but it should be, who doesn’t love a bit of light-hearted fun with a happy-for-now ending, a few giggles and a big dollop of ‘aww’ along the way.

Sounds like a ‘lazy day’ book to me! Right, final question and then you can go. Describe your perfect death (in case I must kill you)?

Wrapped in Ryan Gosling’s arms on a Bali bed on some exotic beach where you feed me enough cocktails and chocolates to keep me happy but obviously not enough for me to survive on as that would negate the killing part. If you’re really serious about this, the Ryan Gosling part is fundamental.

I might kill you anyway. Ryan Gosling is mine, bitch!

🎄 Festive fun with Llamas! What's not to love? #christmas #books #romcom #festive

Deck the Halles:

Next Christmas at the Little French Llama Farm

by

Stephanie Dagg

It’s nearly Christmas at the little French llama farm.

Nick and Noelle are looking forward to a quiet, romantic Christmas together, but at the last moment Noelle is asked to book her local agricultural halles for the imminent national llama show. The original venue went up in smoke. Noelle does as asked, thinking that’s all she’ll have to do. She couldn’t be more wrong!

On top of all the extra work this good deed makes for her, various friends and relatives start turning up on the doorstep as the result of assorted crises. The farmhouse is about to burst at the seams!

Add in a few other events, such as playing the part of a pixie at a Christmas fête, Nick’s book launch, training a non-cooperative llama for the agility class in the show and catering for more and more mouths, and Noelle is pushed ever closer to the end of her tether.

Can she hold it together and stay as calm as a llama? Or will she be the next member of her family to make a bolt for it?

This festive, feel-good and fun novel is the sequel to ‘Fa-La-Llama-La: Christmas at the Little French Llama Farm’ but can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

It was when she plumped up the cushions for the fourth time that she decided she would go out and do some more research on the prostitutes.

She grinned, brightening as a plan began to formulate in her mind. ‘I’ll approach it differently this time,’ she said aloud, feeling ingenious. ‘And I’ll be a hooker for the evening. I’ll get information undercover!’

She rubbed her hands together, warming to her plan and picturing Melvin’s face when a publishing house took on her book and elevated her up the best-selling list. She would be sending Fanny to the canteen for her lunch and not vice versa; she imagined sending him for lattes and Sushi as Mr Middleton looked on in admiration.

‘Obviously, I won’t be sleeping with the clients, unless Orlando Bloom or Will Smith pulls up,’ she continued, ‘but that’s not very likely. Hell, I’d settle for anyone at this rate! Hmmm, what to wear…’ and she danced off towards her bedroom and pulled out a pair of stockings and a red garter from her drawer while humming to herself. In her enthusiasm, the dangers she might encounter were completely submerged.

Usually, makeup was just a slick of lipstick and sometimes mascara. Therefore, the hunt was on for her makeup bag, which contained cosmetics not worn since her schooldays, unless you included the hideous occasion where she embarrassed herself in front of Mr Middleton at the fancy dress party. She found it after turning her bedroom and bathroom upside down, and emptied the contents in the bathroom sink.

She picked up a red lipstick and pulled off the gold lid. Before the sensible side of her talked her out of her mad plan, she applied the lipstick to her mouth. Smacking her lips together, she looked at herself critically in the mirror. It was amazing how a little makeup changed your face.

She wiped it off and set about making up her face properly using foundation, lip liner and black kohl to line her eyes. She viewed herself in the mirror again: sparkly purple eyeshadow, pillar-box red lips and cheeks. Her makeup would match her red mini skirt and garter that she’d planned to wear.

She straightened her hair and added the blonde hair extensions she had used at the disastrous party, only this time she used all she had instead of just a few. When she’d finished, she looked like a blonde bombshell from a 1980s budget movie.

‘Goodbye Wallis,’ she told her reflection. ‘Hello Charlotte.’

Only 99p!

Love Them and Leave Them
Sometimes you have to leave the one you love … sometimes you’re the one who’s left behind.

another excellent read from Sue Shepherd

Love Them and Leave Them is a story of love, families, friendship and a world of possibilities. And before they can look forward to the future, they will all have to deal with the mistakes of the past.

One

Ed – Six years ago
There was scarcely a moment for Ed to make his decision. Gazing wide-eyed back at him, the rabbit seemed rooted to the spot. It was directly in his line of fire, and if it didn’t move in the next five seconds, he was going to squash it flat. The rain was hammering down, the tyres of Ed’s beloved Avensis barely touching the tarmac.

Ed shouted pointlessly for the rabbit to move. It remained. Ed tooted his horn. The rabbit was oblivious to the approaching vehicle. Ed wondered if he should just hit the stupid thing? Would it damage the car? He loved this car, he’d not had it long. On the other hand, swerving to avoid the creature was surely a crazy idea, particularly in this downpour.

Only metres away, Ed couldn’t do it. Who knew what kind of sickening sound a great fat bunny like that would make on impact? Plus, he was just too worried about scratching the front of his car. With a rapid movement, Ed snatched the steering wheel to the right, his wheels narrowly avoiding the stationary animal. Sadly, those same wheels locked, sending him into a skid. Ed’s car began aquaplaning across the road. He’d made a catastrophic decision, which he regretted instantly. The rabbit, at last roused from its trance, darted its way to the safety of the grass verge, where it disappeared into a bush, to the sound of a ton of metal colliding head-on with a large oak tree.

On his way home, Ed makes a split-second decision that changes the lives of all those who love him.
Six years on, Ed’s daughter, Jessie, is stuck in a job with no prospects, her dreams never fulfilled. It will take more than her unreliable boyfriend, Chris, and temperamental best friend, Coco, to give her the confidence to get her life back on track.
But what if Ed had made another decision? It could all have been so different …

Six years on, Ed’s daughter, Jessica, has a successful career, loving boyfriend, Nick, and a keen eye on her dream home. But when new clients, a temperamental Coco, and her unreliable boyfriend, Chris, walk into her life, Jessica’s perfect world soon starts to unravel.

If you like #romcom #christmas novels, check out this extract from Sex, Snow and Mistletoe

Excerpt from the book
 Sex, Snow and Mistletoe
by
  Laura Barnard

Snow, bloody snow! The only idiots that like snow are kids and that’s because they get a day off school. It’s us adults that have to carry on like normal and suffer. Like I’m not late enough. Like I’m not already two hours late for the rehearsal dinner. Gabriella is going to kill me. She’s text me fifteen times already and left three furious voice mails. I’ve ignored them all, refusing to answer the phone while I’m driving. I’d no doubt crash the car and that would only make me later. It’s not my fault that my boss kept me late at work and then my Mum popped round and started blabbering on about how I should be going to my own wedding, not a friend of a friends.
To be honest I’m quite embarrassed to have even been invited to this. I’ve only met her once.  I mean, do people really invite people to their wedding that they met when urinating in the street? I don’t really think I was proving my wedding guest potential, more my inability to drink three bottles of wine and remain standing/coherent/able to hold my bladder.
Lights suddenly flash in my rear mirror. I glance back and notice a black Audi behind me. I look out of the window past the blizzard of snow falling onto the already dark muddy country lane, big willow trees surrounding me. This is definitely the kind of place people get murdered. There is no way in hell I’m pulling over so this psychopath can pull a gun on me. No thank you. I watch Crime Watch.  My mumma didn’t raise no fool. I check the lights on my dashboard, wondering if there’s something obvious I’m missing. I think I’m fine… Not that I’d have the slightest idea anyway. I hate being such a girl.

Melinda is already having a crappy Christmas. Forced to attend some snotty bitch's wedding is not the way to start out the holidays. But when a car crash pushes her into the path of a handsome stranger she's glad to follow his snowy, sexy and seductive path.

But is he too good to be true?
And will she make it to the wedding before her best friend loses her mind with worry?
